The move towards computerisation and process optimisation within HR was urgently needed. They used to do too many processes by hand which led to inaccuracies and wasted time.
Employees had to keep track of the number of hours they worked on paper. The paper summaries were then checked by the team leaders and sent to HR using Excel for input by hand.
Planning used to be done at the start of the year in spreadsheets - a task that cannot be underestimated - and this had to be done for each department and each person. The complexity of the spreadsheets, together with the accompanying macros often meant that errors occurred. It is no surprise that the planning used to take over a week.
